September 2004
Afghanistan with EDP Assistance

In May of 2004 Tajik firm Avicenna shipped 8 truckloads of mineral water and soft drinks to Afghanistan, for sale in Marzari Sharif. This first shipment was worth $32,000.
Avicenna began its potentially lucrative business with Afghanistan as a result of a trip taken to the country by Avicenna Commercial Director Komil Kholikov, Enterprise Development Project (EDP) Country Director Mickey Torreano, and EDP Afghanistan Trade Specialist, Khushvakht Rakhmikhudoev.
While visiting Afghanistan, Avicenna's Mr. Kholikov made key business contacts interested in selling the company's products in the country. The company plans to ship 8 truckloads of water and soft drinks to Mazari-Sharif every month and has made a new label in the Dari language specifically for that market.
Avicenna has also signed a partnering agreement with Afghani Company "Dovut Rizo" to open a representative office in Mazari-Sharif. Avicenna is looking forward to a successful venture in Afghanistan and is now assessing other business opportunities between Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
