A million dollars of rice

Er-Sir, a food wholesale group from Shymkent, have been working with EDP's Regional Trade Promotion (RTP) component since September 2004, and have enjoyed considerable success through the trade leads Regional Trade Promotion Consultant Yuliya Permitina has been able to recommend.

The company's latest success came through their registration on the RTP website www.smetradecenter.net when in March 2005 the company received multiple requests from Russian breweries for ground rice. Of the requests, three private brewing plants from Barnaul and Novosibirsk requested pricing for specific orders of Er-Sir's Kazakh ground rice. From these initial enquiries, a brewer from Barnaul signed a delivery contract for 2,500 tons of ground rice to the amount of $364,000. Additionally, in June 2005 Yuliya Permitina was approached by another potential buyer, Aleksander Lukienko, also interested in purchasing ground rice. Ms Permitina put him in contact with Er-Sir and a contract for $715,000 of ground rice was signed between the two of them.

As a result of www.smetradecenter.net and RTP's knowledge in trade related issues and in the extensive RTP network, Er-Sir pulled in an extra million dollars of business between March and June 2005.
