May 2005 Trade deal helps to expand Kyrgyz telecoms
Kyrgyz Tumar, a telecommunications installation company, has signed the first in a series of contracts with Hong Kong based company Hua Wei, to install telecommunications equipment in Kyrgyzstan.
The first shipment of equipment for base-stations and switchboards was facilitated with the assistance of EDP Trade Advisor Shamil Ibragimov. The deal is worth US$3,200, and promises to be the first transaction in a developing partnership between the two companies.
The twenty staff of Kyrgyz Tumar are committed to developing usage of internet, fax and telephone communications in Kyrgyzstan, and to assist in the development and expansion of state-of-the-art information technologies among users in the public sector.
Previously the company installed 15 base stations for wireless internet and a switchboard for 10,000 subscribers in Karaganda, Kazakhstan, for the telecoms company Alcatel. It also installed a GSM switchboard and more than 12 base stations manufactured by Hua Wei for Bitel in Bishkek.
One of the company's customers, the General Director of TESICOM, LLC, K. Bocharnikov, noted, "Originally we expected to have a one-off transaction with Kyrgyz Tumar to have it install hybrid connection equipment. However, thanks to our joint efforts and certain technical decisions, we found a new niche for our ongoing cooperation."
Currently, the company is closely cooperating with enterprises such as Winline to install three CDMA 450 base stations, Saima Telecom to install fixed equipment, Kyrgyz Telecom to install relay lines, and Wintel to install a fixed switchboard for 10,000 subscribers.
Alexei Cherbakov, Director of the Kyrgyz Tumar, LLC said, "Thanks to the assistance of Shamil Ibragimov of the EDP Project we were able to run a presentation of the company that resulted in our signing a new contract for installation of telecommunications equipment worth $3,200. We hope this is a good start for further cooperation with the EDP Project and our partner, the Hua Wei Company."
