December 2005 Steel Solidifies EDP Trade Partner Revenue Streams
Local RTP partner DMD became a client of Project EDP in March 2004. Awarded a small grant by the project in early 2005, DMD was able to acquire a limited amount of technical equipment to increase the operational capacities of their office premises. In addition, EDP provided a substantial amount of technical assistance to DMD which allowed them to increase their effectiveness as a trade-affiliated service company operating in Turkmenistan.
Since collaborating with EDP, DMD has increased its business effectiveness significantly. Thru end of October 2005, DMD, with varied assistance from EDP, realized or facilitated four deals totaling in excess of $730,000. In November, DMD displayed its professional successes yet again. Facilitating an award of a steel supply contract between partner enterprise "Tregard S.A." of England and "Turkmenenergogurlyshyk", a state entity within the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Turkmenistan, DMD will earn a commission for the $1,877,825 deal signed November 10, 2005.
Details of the newly facilitated trade deal include Tregard S.A. importing 3,665 tons of reinforced steel from both Russia and the Ukraine to Turkmenistan and client Turkmenenergogurlyshyk. Supplies of this steel product will be utilized in new energy construction projects located along the Amudarya river in the Lebap velayat. The first delivery tranche of steel product is foreseen to take place in first quarter of 2006.
"The success of our operations in this market is a direct result of USAID/EDP shared methodology of international experience in facilitating trade deals." Comments DMD Marketing Manager Alexander Kulyi. "While we have operated for years as a trade-affiliated enterprise, thus far with partnering with EDP we have facilitated in excess of $2.5 million dollars of deals. When compared to last year's business results, we have nearly quadrupled our realized results. Much of this is due to EDP's direct assistance with deals, but as well due to the technical assistance implemented within DMD, primarily in areas of marketing and sales strategies, has increased our company's image in the eyes of existing and new customers."
